A little over one third of the College attained Dean's List standing for the fall term, according to figures released yesterday by Registrar Sargent Kennedy. The total includes 1555 students, 35.0 percent of the College, representing a small rise over last year's total.
As usual, the Senior Class led in percentage of members making the List with 45.7, followed by the other classes in order of seniority. The Class of '57 placed 367 students on the List, 35.2 percent of the class.
Sophomores Follow
Sophomores followed with 365 or 31.6 percent, while 333 freshmen received the necessary grades, a class average of 29.7 percent.
The seniors also led in a breakdown of the List, with 29 members, 2.7 percent, in Group I. The Juniors had 2.5 percent, double the sophomore figure. Only eight freshmen, less than one percent of '59, ranked in the group.
One hundred forty-four members of the Senior Class, 102 juniors, 107 sophomores, and 97 Freshmen made Group II, for a college average of 10.1 percent.
Group III Largest
Group III was by far the largest single honors category, 23.2 percent of the College placed in it. This broke down to 29.5 percent of '56, 22.9 of '57, 21.1 of '58, and 20.4 of '59.
The greatest rise in percentage making Dean's List was the Freshman Class where 3.4 percent more than last year gained the honor. The sophomore average rose 1.4 percent while the juniors' rose 1.9 percent.
The seniors, however, dropped one percentage point from last year's figure.
