FRESHMAN RACE TODAY.

Starts at Longwood Bridge at 5.30.--Squad to be Picked After the Race.

The Freshman interclub boat race will be rowed this afternoon at 5.30 o'clock, over the regular mile and seven-eighths course down stream from the Longwood bridge to the Union Boat House. The corresponding crews of each club will start side by side, the first crews in the middle of the river and the thirds next to the Beacon street wall. After the race about twenty men will be chosen to form a squad from which the final Freshman eight will be selected. G. Bancroft '02, H. Bullard '02 and Mr. Higginson will pick the men for the squad; and E. C. Storrow '89, J. J. Storrow '85, G. S. Mumford '87, R. A. Derby '05 and A. Hemenway, Jr., '05, will be the officials.

The race should be very close with the advantage slightly in favor of the Newell crews, as they have been rowing together in their present order for a much longer time than their opponents. All the Weld crews have had frequent changes up to last week and are consequently not as united as they would otherwise be. The second Weld is probably in the best condition of any of the crews at that club and should row a very fast race. In general the crews at the Newell show superior form and those at the Weld greater strength.

The orders of the crews will be as follows:

First Weld--Stroke, Heard; 7, Lawson (captain); 6, McLeod; 5, Nice; 4, Lewis; 3, Eaves; 2, Ober; bow, Johnson; cox., Chase.

First Newell--Stroke, Tew (captain); 7, Swaim; 6, Lamson; 5, Mills; 4, James; 3, Locke; 2, Webster; bow, Mason; cox., Green.

Second Weld--Stroke, Richmond; 7, Eayrs; 6, Joy; 5, Abbot; 4, Hall; 3, Bowditch; 2, Winsor; bow, Crocker; cox., Whitney.

Second Newell--Stroke, Wigglesworth; 7, Stockton; 6, Leaycraft; 5, Sard; 4, Stack; 3, Bryant; 2, Hall; bow, Moot; cox., Scully.

Third Weld--Stroke, Deming; 7, Joralemon; 6, Jewitt; 5, Douglass; 4, Travis; 3, Miller; 2, Morgan; bow, Hadfield; cox., Collins.

Third Newell--Stroke, Coleman; 7, Lewis; 6, Gale; 5, Waite; 4, Souther; 3, Conger; 2, Bigelow; bow, Muir; cox., Lewis.

H. Bancroft '98 has been appointed temporary coach of the Freshman crew and will take charge of the squad immediately.
