Football practice began on September 10, the work at first being very light on account of the warm weather and consisting of passing and punting. The squad now numbers 47 men, and during the past week the candidates have been very thoroughly drilled in all departments of the game. The men have shown considerable speed and understanding of the new rules, and there has been a noticeable improvement not only in the usual line plays, but also in the new forward pass and onside punt to which particular attention has been given. There is every prospect of a strong team, particularly in the backfield, where many men from last year's team are available. An unusually hard schedule has been arranged this year including games with both Annapolis and West Point, Cornell, Dartmouth and Yale.

The tennis team is already at work in preparation for the intercollegiate tournament at Haverford, which comes in two weeks. Although several men were lost by graduation, good material is left and a strong team is expected. Dual matches will also probably be arranged with Yale and Columbia late in October.

The freshman class has elected the following officers: president, George Orr, Evanston, Illinois; vice president, George M. Jones, Red Star, West Virginia; secretary and treasurer, George E. Wilkinson, York, Pennsylvania.

During the summer the university dining halls have been enlarged at the expense of $10,000, so that now the entire freshman class can be accommodated, Among the other improvements to the campus are the new McCosh Hall, a large recitation building, which will probably not be ready for occupancy this year; and a small addition to Blair Hall containing 13 suites of rooms.
