DEEP, deep under the sea dreameth my-love silently,
Where the green sea-weed sheds its ripened seed,
Wreathing around him gracefully.
Deep, deep under the wave rests my love in his lowly grave,
Where the coral and pearl, in the eddy's whirl,
Cover the breast once true and brave.
Deep, deep under the billow sleeps my love on his hard, cold pillow,
And the mammoth sedge on the rocky ledge
Waves o'er his head like a weeping willow.
Deep, deep under the foam lies my love in his narrow home,
While the moon at night, with its varying light,
Like a votive lamp hangs over his tomb.
