Last evening Gen. Francis A. Walker lectured to a large audience in Sever 11 upon "American Manufactures." The lecturer thought that without protective tariff our country would have made greater progress. In inventive genius we are to other nations as giants to pigmies. The American, however, will waste even if he has to work harder. The lecturer's closing remarks were greeted with enthusiastic applause.
