George Bancroft the historian, a native of Worcester, has given that city a scholarship to be called the Aaron and Lucretia Chandler Bancroft scholarship for the education of its young men. The income is to be devoted to the education in succession at the colleges of their choice of indigent young natives of Worcester who may prove their ability in the Worcester schools. The city council has accepted the gift. The scholarship is named after Mr. Bancroft's parents.
