The Index.

The advance copies of the "Index" were presented to the CRIMSON yesterday afternoon, although on account of one or two necessary changes copies for the public will not be placed on sale until to morrow.

We wish in the first place to congratulate Mr. Knapp the editor upon the exterior appearance of the book. The cover we have noticed before, but the type, arrangement of matter, and general form has been very well attended to.

The "Index" this year is larger than last by some 25 or 30 pages, containing as it does much new matter. There are 11 new organizations given: - The Boylston Chemical Club, the Conference Francaise, the Schwatzende Bruderschaft, the '89 Banjo Club, the Harvard Law Association and six new Harvard clubs. This growth of Harvard clubs throughout the country is very gratifying. There are 17 at present, in states from California to Maine.

At the end of the "Index" is a complete programme of the 250 anniversary exercises, giving the names of the marshals, and those upon whom honorary degrees were conferred.

The order of the clubs and societies is much the same as usual, the character not greatly changed. The old Christian Brethren appears under its new name, and the Chess Club is now the Chess and Wheat Club. The athletic records have been compiled by Mr. W. B. Curtis of the Spirit of The Times.
