The Canoe Club Regatta.

The second regatta of the Canoe Club was held yesterday morning on Back Bay. The wather and water were not unfavorable for the races. The spectators, the greater part of whom were ladies, were few. Two races were contested, one for three and the other for two miles. In the first the contestants were: G. A. Webster, S. S., Gretchen; R. F. Coombs, S. S. Pilgrim; F. I. Proctor, '87, Genesta; and T. Dunham, '85, Beatrice. The boats were of Class B. The start was made at 11.04 o'clock. Proctor won, completing the miles as follows: First mile, at 11.34; second mile, at 11.59; and third, at 12 22 1-2. Dunham finished at 12.30. Webster gave up in the middle of the race. Coombs, who was second at the end of the first mile, lost his position by an accident. In rounding the buoy he was struck by a gust of wind and thrown into the Water. Boats were immediately sent out, however, and he finished the race, coming in about a third of a mile behind Dunham.

The second race for two miles was in Class A canoes. Only two men entered the contest; A. G. Webster, '85, Gerin ine; and E. K. Dunham, M. S., Phillis. Dunham, whose canoe had but one sail, was so handicapped by it in the head wind, that he withdrew soon after rounding the first buoy. The start in the race was made at 11.07, and Webster, who finished the race alone, completed the first mile at 11.31, and the second at 12.02.

The officer's of the race were: Referee, Mr. H. K. Swinscoe, '85; time keeper, Mr. Woodworth, '87.
