The Crimson Retains the Chamship.

A HARD STRUGGLE RESULTS IN A TIE, EIGHT TO EIGHT.

The championship contest for scrub elevens was played yesterday afternoon on Jarvis between the Bacterias and the CRIMSON. The struggle was the most terrific ever played between scrub elevens. The superior weight of the Bacterias proved no match for the great celerity and close team play of the CRIMSON, for the former team played an up-hill game throughout until the last three seconds when the score was tied amid the wildest enthusiasm of the Bacteriani. At the close of the first half the score stood 8 to 0. in favor of the CRIMSON. The half was marked by long rushes by the CRIMSON and close blocking by the Bacteria rush-line. A few sparring contests lent spectacular interest to the game. In the second half the struggle was furious. Several times the ball was brought down to the goal of the CRIMSON and once a high throw aided by the strong wind blowing resulted in a safety touch-back for the CRIMSON. As the minutes passed the game seemed already decided for every effort of the Bacterias to score proved futile. But just before the time expired a curious line of fortuitous circumstances aided by a magnificent rush gave the Bacterias a touch-down. With but three seconds left the ball was placed and a goal kicked tieing the score. So scant was the time that one enthusiast declares that the ball still in the air had not yet reached the goal posts before the contest was ended. The support of the teams was wildly enthusiastic.
