Base-Ball.

Saturday afternoon Harvard met the Bowdoin nine and defeated them by a score of 13 to 5. The day was cold and raw and this may account somewhat for the large number of errors which were made. The fielding of both teams was miserable, and the only redeeming feature of the game was Harvard's heavy hitting. Mr. E. H. Nichols acted as umpire for two innings and then Mr. Egan appeared and took his place.

The game opened with Harvard at the bat. Wiestling made a two-base hit, Foster's fly was muffed by Soule, and both men came in on a wild pitch and a wild throw by Boutelle. Campbell was put out at first. Willard's fly to left was dropped by Talbot, and Henshaw got his base on balls. Boyden made a hit bringing in Willard, and Henshaw and Boyden got in on errors. The next two men were put out. For Bowdoin, Moulton got his base on balls, went to third on a passed ball, and came in on a wild throw by Henshaw. Bowdoin made no more runs this innings though they got three men on bases.

Harvard was blanked in the second, and made one run in the third, as Willard drove the ball under the seats in right field for a home run. Henshaw made a two-bagger but was left on third. Bowdoin made three runs in the second on two bases on balls, an attempted put out and a three base hit by Soule which brought in three men. They added one more run to their score in the third, and this closed their run getting. Freman got third on Piper's muff of his fly, and came in on Boutelle's single.

Harvard failed to score in the fourth and fifth, but in the sixth they made one run. Bingham got his base on balls, stole second, went to third on Piper's single and came in on Soule's wild throw. In the seventh two more runs were made on Boyden's three-bagger, singles by Bingham, and Wiestling, and a fumble by Underwood. In the eighth, Campbell made a hit, stole second and third and came in on Williard's single. Boyden then made his second three-bagger bringing Willard in, and came in himself on Boutelle's error. In the ninth after two men were out, Foster made a single, stole second and got home on Campbell's single, Campbell was left on third. Henshaw injured his finger in the eighth innings and retired. Campbell took his place behind the bat and Holden went to third.

Harvard batted well and ran bases splendidly, but her fielding was very weak. The best batting was done by Boyden, Willard and Wiestling. Wiestling also fielded finely, and Talbot captured several difficult flies for Bowdoin.
