The bronze statue of Longfellow, made by Mr. Simmons in Rome, was brought to Portland Tuesday. The ceremony of unveiling will take place today in State Street Square. An oration is to be delivered by the Hon. E. B. Jackson and an address made by the Hon. C. F. Libbey, the response to which will be made by Mayor Chap man. A poem by Mrs. Carazza and singing of the "Psalm of Life" by school-children will complete the ceremony.

The statue represents Longfellow sitting in a chair, one hand resting on the back of it, and the other holding a roll of manuscript. The work is admirably done and is Mr. Simmon's best production.
