Preliminary play in the Chess Tournament has been finished and nine men instead of eight, are entitled to play in the second round, owing to a tie in one of the sections. The players have been divided into two sections which are as follows: Sections 1. MacKaye, Sp; Goldmark, '94; Spalding. '95; Hewins, '96; Van Rensselaer '96. Section II. Ballou '93; Hawes '93; Van Kleeck '95; and Wilson '94.
Each player will play two games with every other man in his section. All games must be played and the results left at 19 Holyoke House on or before November 22, the committee reserving the right to drop any man who has not finished by that time. The two men in each section having the highest score will play in the final round.
