On Saturday for the third time since the formation of the Phillips-Andover-Exeter Track Athletic Association, Andover sprinters clearly showed their superiority to those at Exeter, making 54 points to Exeter's 36, counting first prize five points second two points and third one point.
In the pole vault and in the half-mile and hurdle races the best previous records of both schools were broken. The meeting was unusually successful and the results show clearly that there is excellent material in both academies for track athletics. Sayer of Exeter and Sheldon of Andover distinguished themselves in the number of points scored.
The 100 yards dash was won by Sayer in 10 4-5 secs. Wormelsdorf and Hall of Andover took second and third places.
First place in the pole vault went to Andover through Sheldon who cleared 9 ft. 5 1-2 in, breaking the records of both schools. Another Andover man took second while third went to Exter.
Sayer had no difficulty in winning the 220 yards dash in 24 secs. and Marshall of Exeter was second, Clarke of Andover third.
The best time of the afternoon was made by Davis of Andover in the half-mile run in 2 min. 4 2-5 secs. Arnold of Exeter was second and third place fell to Exeter also.
Sheldon won the running high jump for Andover with 5ft. 7 1-4 in., Sayer and Connor of Exeter tying for second and third.
Andover took first and second in putting the shot, Foley winning with 34ft. 11 in., tying the best school record. Coyne of Exeter was third.
Hollister won the mile run for Exeter in 4 min. 49 sec. with Francis and Robinson of Andover second and third. This lowered Exter's record 15 seconds.
Exeter took another first place in the 120 yards high hurdles, Whitehead winning it in 18 2 5 secs. Second and third went to Andover.
Andover won all nine points in the 440 yards, Clarke being the winner in 53 sec.
Sheldon of Andover won the running broad jump with 19ft. 10 1-2 in. Sayer of Exeter and Thompson of Andover tied at 19ft. 3in. and divided the points.
