Mr. Royal W. Merrill '69, died on Saturday, aged forty-two. After graduation Mr. Merrill began newspaper work in Boston, where he became city editor of the Daily Advertiser. He went to Philadelphia in 1875, where he was an editorial writer for the Times, which was established in that year. When the New York Mail and Express was reorganized by Colonel Shepard he became its financial editor. Last July he was appointed to the same position on the New York Press.
