‘The Architect of the Whole Plan’: Harvard Law Graduate Ken Chesebro’s Path to Jan. 6
There was a very large attendance at the B. A. A. Games in Mechanics Hall Saturday night. The Harvard men as a rule showed up well and succeeded in winning more points than any other club. By far the most interesting event of the evening was the Harvard-Pennsylvania team race, which Harvard lost solely through hard luck. The first three relays by L. T. Hildreth '96, W. H. Vincent '97, and N. W. Bingham '95, gave Harvard a big lead which E. Hollister '97 increased until he broke the spikes on his running shoes and fell on the second corner. When he had picked himself up and started to run he still had a lead of eight yards, but in the last lap he fell again on the same corner and Orton won easily. Harvard won the team race with the B. A. A. easily in 3m. 17 4/5s. In the final heat of the 40 yds. handicap M. G. Gonterman '95 won, with a handicap of 7 ft., in 4 3/5s. The mile invitation race, which resulted in a dead heat between Kilpatrick, U. C. of N. Y., and Orton, U. of P., was very exciting, the latter only catching up with Kilpatrick by a beautiful spurt. J. W. Edson '98 and G. Newell '98, won second place in the 440 yds. handicap and the mile handicap respectively. Most of the team races were exciting, but the time was not especially good in any of them. K. K. Kubli L. S. won the shot putting by an actual put of 39.ft. 4 in., and C. J. Paine '97 won second place by a put of 38 ft. 1 1/4 in.
E. H. Clark '96 won second place in the potato race.
The following table shows the number of places won by each association:
