A handicap tournament open to all members of the University will be held in the rooms of the Harvard Fencing Club next Tuesday evening at eight o'clock. This tournament is intended especially for those who have never fenced on a team and all men who have any experience in fencing are urged to enter, as it is hoped that the contest will develop material for the teams to compete in the Intercollegiate and Junior Tournaments. The prizes will be a pair of foils for first and a bronze medal for second place.
Beside A. G. Thacher '97 who fenced in last year's Intercollegiate Tournament, and A. F. Riggs '98 who fenced on the Junior Team, there are eight other candidates now trying for the team, two of whom, M. de Diaz '98 and R. Pulitzer '00, have but lately come out and show promise.
It is hoped that the Intercollegiate Tournament will be postponed from March 20 to April 10, so that the new material may be developed as much as possible. This is the fourth tournament held by the Intercollegiate Fencing Association and Harvard has won every year thus far. Besides Columbia and Annapolis, it is hoped that Cornell and Yale will enter teams this year.
The Junior Tournament will be held in New York April 16 and 17 and is open only to teams made up of men who have never won a medal under the rules of the Amateur Fencing League of America.
The attention of men desiring to try for these teams and of every one interested in fencing is called to the notice which has been published in the CRIMSON for several days, to the effect that any members of the University not members of the Fencing Club may, upon payment of ten dollars, receive instructions from Professor Rondelle at the club rooms for the remainder of the year.
Entries must be sent to A. F. Riggs, 44 Ware Hall, not later than Monday.
