JUNIORS, 11; SOPHOMORES, 5.

1903 Wins Class Football Championship Third Consecutive Time.

The Juniors won the class football championship yesterday afternoon by defeating the Sophomores 11 to 5. Both elevens played unusually well; but the Juniors were slightly stronger on the defensive and by means of several long end runs and steady line plunges were able to keep the ball in their opponents' territory most of the time. The Sophomores were completely outplayed during the first half, but toward the end of the game they improved greatly and by fierce rushes pushed the ball down the field for a touchdown. The best run of the game was made by Noyes who circled left end for 25 yards on a delayed pass. For the Juniors, Pier, Noyes and Foster were most effective, and Skilton, DeKoven and Doherty did the best work for the Sophomores.

Immediately after their kick-off in the first half the Sophomores obtained the ball on a fumble at the 30 yard line, but were held for downs. By short plunges the Juniors advanced 10 yards and then Noyes made his long run around left end reaching the Sophomores' 30 yard line. Several bucks, including one of 10 yards by Foster, brought the ball to the 13 yard line, whence Noyes, on a delayed pass, scored a touchdown. Pier kicked goal. Soon after the Juniors had kicked off in the second half they took the ball on downs at the Sophomores' 25 yard line. Plays principally through the right side of the line brought the ball within a yard of the goal line, but the Sophomores held firmly and prevented a touchdown. Pier, however, made a fair catch of the punt-out at the 25 yard line and kicked a goal from placement. The Sophomores then worked desperately and receiving the ball at the centre of the field on a return punt from the kick-off they attacked the line with average gains of about 3 yards until Doherty crossed the Juniors' goal line. The try for goal was unsuccessful. Time was called soon after with the ball in the Sophomores' possession at the centre of the field.
