HARVARD, 48; BROWN, 0.

Brown Outclassed. -- Bad Fumbles and Little Team Work by Harvard.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

Harvard defeated Brown on Saturday by a score of 48 to 0, in an uninteresting and poorly played game. Harvard was not once held for downs, while Brown was able to gain first down only once. The play was in Brown's territory most of the time and Brown secured the ball only once in Harvard's territory, when in the second half Harvard fumbled it.

Harvard's playing was marked by a great deal of fumbling and carelessness. Two fumbles were made within 5 yards of Brown's line, and several others in other parts of the field. The gains made by Harvard were due principally to excellent individual work rather than to team play. The interference formed well and worked effectively, and the runners had little difficulty in keeping their feet. Although playing against weak and inexperienced opponents, the Harvard team showed considerable dash and spirit.

Sargent at center not only passed well, but went into all the plays in good style. Barnard and Lee opened large holes in the line and helped the runners along. Cutts was slow in starting with the ball, but when once under way gained ground effectively. Marshall was not accurate in handling the ball and did not watch the opposing team enough in directing the plays. Graydon hit the line very awkwardly and was not accurate in finding openings. Kernan and Putnam ran well with the ball and warded off tackles, but Kernan was careless in handling the ball.

Brown was unable to advance the ball after the first kick-off and Harvard got the ball on the 0 yard line. Tackle plays resulted in a touchdown, Kernan carrying the ball over. Cutts kicked goal. On the next kick-off the ball went over the line and on the free kick Kernan punted to the 30 yard line, where the ball was fumbled and Harvard secured it. Gains through the line advanced the ball to the 20 yard line where Brown secured it on a fumble. Harvard then recovered the ball on a fumble, but lost it in the same way on the 10 yard line. Brown punted to the middle of the field. On the next play Kernan went around right end for a touchdown. Cutts kicked goal. O'Connell ran the next kick-off back 23 yards and Kernan gained 20 yards around right end. Short end runs and gains through the line brought the ball to the 15 yard line. Cutts made 7 and 5 yard gains through tackle and Graydon then went over the line. Cutts kicked goal. Graydon ran the kick-off back 20 yards and Jones made 20 yards around left end. Steady gains through tackle and short gains around end resulted in another touchdown, Kernan carrying the ball over. Cutts kicked goal. Marshall ran the next kick-off back 18 yards. Continued short gains through the line, and several clever end runs by Putnam, brought the ball to the 3 yard line where Harvard lost it on a fumble. Brown punted out of danger, Marshall getting the ball on the 40 yard line. Gains through the line by Graydon and end runs by Putnam brought the ball to the 5 yard line where again Harvard fumbled. Bates fell back to punt, but the kick was blocked and O'Connell fell on it. Marshall caught the punt out, and Cutts kicked goal. No further scoring was done in the first half, the ball being in Harvard's possession on the 45 yard line when time was called.

Jones got the kick off on the 40 yard line, and on the next play Putnam punted to the 8 yard line. A series of exchanges of punts resulted in Lee getting the ball on a fumble on Brown's 40 yard line, whence gains through the line by Lawrence, Graydon and Jones, secured another touchdown, Lawrence taking the ball over. Lawrence kicked goal. Jones got the next kick-off on the 32 yard line and Putnam punted to Brown's 30 yard line. Brown could not gain and punted to Marshall. After a few plays Brown got the ball on a fumble and punted to Marshall on Harvard's 14 yard line. Putnam returned the punt to Brown's 37 yard line, where Brown gained 5 yards. Bates tried to punt, but the kick was blocked and Burgess got it on the 50 yard line. Harvard advanced the ball to the 25 yard line, where it was again lost on a fumble, but immediately regained on the 10 yard line, whence Graydon carried it over in two plays. Lawrence kicked goal. Graydon punted the next kick-off back to Brown's 40 yard line. Failing to gain Brown punted to Harvard's 37 yard line. Putnam then kicked to the 2 yard line. On Brown's blocked punt, Campbell scored the last touchdown. Lawrence kicked goal.
