During the past year, 13,827 botanical specimens have been added to the collection at the Gray Herbarium; about 10,000 of these were acquired by gift or exchange, and the remainder by purchase.
Preliminary trials of the candidates for the University and class relay teams, which will compete in the B. A. A. games, were held yesterday. Forty-seven men ran in the trials on the board track, and the time made by most of them was encouraging. The final trials for the teams will be held on Wednesday, February 6.
The enrolment figures for the larger courses during the year 1899-1900 were as follows: English A, 555; Geology 4, 464; Economics 1, 461; History 1, 456; Government 1,428; English 8b,359; English 8a, 319; Chemistry 1, 317; German A, 304; Philosophy 1a, 284; History 13, 226; Military and Naval Science 1, 186; Fine Arts 4, 133.
By the will of the late Benjamin D. Stillman two legacies of $50,000 each are to be given to Yale, on the death of the present holders. At the termination of another trust a further legacy of $10,000 will be given to Yale for the foundation of the William Mitchell Fellowship, and another of $10,000 to Columbia for the foundation of the William Mitchell Fellowship.
