The Second Nine defeated the Freshmen yesterday by the score of 4 to 2 in a six inning game. The fielding of both teams was ragged, and the Freshmen especially showed lack of headwork. Winsor pitched very effectively for the Second Nine, except in the fourth inning. Hutchinson, pitching for the Freshmen, showed much better control than in the game with the Boston Latin School. Hamlen at catcher was very slow in throwing to bases.
Neither side scored until the fourth inning when a two base hit by Jaynes brought in Leonard, who had reached first base on balls. In the last half of the inning an error by Chase, two wild pitches, a base on balls, and a single gave the Freshmen two runs. After this they were unable to score further. In the fifth inning, the Second Nine made three runs through some very ragged playing by their opponents.
