B. C. Wright '03 defeated L. E. Ware '99 in the finals of the Massachusetts state tennis tournament yesterday afternoon 7-5, 7-5, 6-1; and won the state championship from D. F. Davis '00 by default. The final match was very close for the first two sets. Both players were swift Ware the more brilliant, and Wright the steadier. In the third set, however, Wright showed superior endurance, and had no trouble in winning. Three victories are necessary to obtain possession of the challenge cup, and this is Wright's first. D. F. Davis '00, M. D. Whitman '99 and L. E. Ware '99 have also each been champions during the last three years, but none of them has won twice.
