PRACTICE STILL DISAPPOINTING

Second Team Outplays the First.--Invalids Improving.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

With the exception of Wright, who was hurt on the head in Wednesday's game, nearly all of the first team men were out for the University football practice yesterday and went through some form of exercise. In the signal practice, A. Marshall occupied left guard, Kernan went in at left halfback and Graydon at fullback. None of these men, however, played in the line-up against the second team. Tenney and Meier were the only other backs who were not allowed to play. Both are a trifle lame and will be given a chance to rest. Burgess is recovering from tonsillitis and will probably be out again by Monday.

As usual, the punting practice was conspicuous for fumbling and misjudging distances. Only one or two balls were caught fairly on the fly. The backs were drilled separately in starting with the snap of the ball and in forming quickly a compact interference. A large squad of former players helped coach the men. Among them were: J. Dunlop '96, R. Brown '98, B. G. Waters '94, J. Cranston '91, G. W. Bouve '98, O. F. Cutts 3L., W. G. Lee 3M., W. H. Lewis '95, and F. S. Newell '92.

The regular line-up with the second team was short but seemingly long enough for the second eleven to give its customary arguments in favor of interchanging the names of the two teams. The University eleven had the ball only once and then lost it on downs. Bowditch and Jones were the only men who did any good playing for the first team. McDonald filled right end well for the second team, and Foster went through Mills once for twenty-five yards. The line-ups follow: FIRST ELEVEN.  SECOND ELEVEN. Jones, l.e.  r.e., McDonald Mills, l.t.  r.t., Lehmann Hovey, Coburn, l.g.  r.g., Wilder King, c.  c., Lyon Barnard, r.g.  l.g., Force Knowlton, O'Connell, r.t.  l.t., Whitwell Bowditch, r.e.  l.e., Littig Marshall, q.b.  q.b., Noyes Stillman, l.h.b.  r.h.b., Foster Lindsay, r.h.b.  l.h.b., McGlensey Piper, f.b.  f.b., Schoelkoff
