The upperclass graded crews at the Newell and Weld Boat Clubs began work yesterday afternoon. About forty men reported at each club, and three eights were provisionally formed at each. Several more crews will be formed according to the number of men who report today.

As before, Vail will coach at the Newell, and Wray at the Weld. Only one launch will be used in the coaching, each club having it on alternate days.

The races, for which the crews are training, will probably be held in the first part of November, about a week earlier than last year. The crews that went out yesterday were graded as follows:

First Newell--Stroke, Brigham; 7, Swaim; 6, Foster; 5, Haycock; 4, Stevens; 3, Locke; 2, Phillips; bow, James.

Second Newell--Stroke, Webster; 7, Peabody; 6, Lamson; 5, Pierce; 4, Hunt; 3, Stockton; 2, Durfee; bow, Hall.

Third Newell--Stroke, Taylor; 7, Otis; 6, James; 5, Nash; 4, Evans; 3, Olney; 2, Coleman; bow, Page.
