The interclub class races, to decide which crews shall enter the finals for the class championship on April 13 will be rowed next Tuesday and Wednesday, upstream over the regular mile and seven-eights course, starting at the Union Boathouse and finishing at the Longwood Bridge. On Tuesday the Freshmen and the Sophomores of leach club will race, and on Wednesday the Juniors and the Seniors. All four of these races will be rowed at about 4 o'clock. The officials have not yet been appointed. The final race for the class championship will be rowed down-stream on Monday, April 13.
The development of the various crews has so far been unusually slow, although some improvement has been noticeable during the past two weeks. The Newell Seniors are now rowing well together and have developed a fairly long stroke. they are, however, still weak on the recover. The Weld Seniors have been doing rather poorly of late. Their form is good and they row well together, but the crew lacks life. The Newell Juniors have a tendency to clip and they do not row well together. They are especially slow at the catch and weak on the finish. The Weld Juniors are very erratic, their work varying greatly from day to day, and their rowing being at best unsteady. This is due to the fact that they do not come up on their stretchers properly and that their blade work is poor. The Newell Sophomores are generally unsteady and have a poor catch and a weak finish, while the Weld Sophomores lack leg-drive and do not pull the stroke through to the finish. Nevertheless, they have frequently shown that they are capable of spacing out and making their boat travel well. The Newell Freshmen are not well together and their boat is very unsteady. They have a tendency to rush their slides and to clip at the catch. The two chief faults of the Weld Freshmen are a failure to reach out well and an inability to keep together.
Yesterday J. Lawrence '01 and H. Bullard '02 coached the Newell seniors and Sophomores respectively from the "Veritas," while J. f. Perkins 3L coached the Juniors from the coxswain's seat. H. Bancroft '97 and E. C. Boardman '99 coached the Weld seniors and Juniors respectively from the "John Harvard." Vail coached the Newell Freshmen, and Wray the Weld Freshmen, from singles.
