NEW YORK, N. Y., Dec. 21.--in the second day's play of the intercollegiate chess tournament, being held at the West Side Republican Club, the University team defeated Princeton this afternoon by winning three matches and drawing the fourth, thus advancing to second place. Columbia won all four matches from Yale and retains the lead established yesterday.
The standing of the teams is now: Columbia, 7 1-2; Harvard, 4; Princeton, 3 1-2; Yale, 1.
