The University and second crews have been rowing on the river during the past week in longer stretches than before. The University crew has shown a tendency to hang at the catch, and an effort is being made to eradicate this fault, and to develop a strong drive at the finish. Considerable improvement has been shown over the work of last week. There have been no changes recently in the order of the first crew. In the second boat Richards, Montgomery, and Kellogg were tried at six, five, and four respectively. Warren was moved from five to three, and G. Bacon from four to two.
Eight Freshman crews were on the river yesterday, and showed some improvement. The cold weather of the past week has prevented the crews rowing every day. The men have a tendency to meet their oars at the finish and the blade work is rough. The squad is light, but there is some good material. Ellis is being tried at stroke, and Wise is coxswaining the first crew.
The orders:
University crew--Stroke, Filley; 7, Guild; 6, R. Bacon; 5, Richardson; 4, Glass; 3, Emmons; 2, Tappan; bow, Flint; cox., Bladgen.
Second crew--Stroke, Morgan; 7, Corbett; 6, Richards; 5, Montgomery; 4, Kellogg; 3, Warren; 2, G. Bacon; bow, Wiggins; cox., Arnold.
First Freshman crew--Stroke, Ellis; 7, Faulkner; 6, Fitzgerald; 5, Kennard; 4, Crandall; 3, Haufstaengl; 2, Maloon; bow, E. Cutler; cox., Wise.
Second crew--Stroke, J. Cutler; 7, Kemp; 6, Cable; 5, Rackemann; 4, Crowell; 3, Poor; 2, Williams; bow, Morrison; cox., Townsend.
