Hockey With Freshmen

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University hockey team will play the Freshmen this afternoon in the Stadium at 4 o'clock, instead of Newtowne Club, as was originally scheduled. The Freshmen have so far played and won five games, defeating the winners of the upper class series and several strong preparatory school teams. The University team has greatly improved recently in speed and team play. Because of its better condition, greater experience and weight, the chances are in favor of the University team, but the game should be a close one.

Owing to the fact that several scrub games will also be played in the Stadium this afternoon the management has decided that there will be no charge for admission to the game.

The line-up: UNIVERSITY TEAM.  1910. Pell, l.c.  r.e., Dole Townsend, l.c.  r.c., Hicks Rumsey, r.c.  l.c., Morgan Newhall, r.e.  l.e., Lanigan Foster, c.p.  c.p., Gardner Willetts, p.  p., Parker Carpenter, g.  g., Carpenter

University Team Easily Defeated Second.

The practice for the University team yesterday afternoon in the Stadium consisted in a game between the first and second teams in which the first team defeated the second by a score of 12 to 0. The play throughout was marked with unusual spirit and speed; but until the latter part of the second period the first team did not play well together. Towards the end of the game the team work also began to improve rapidly and some very clever goals were made through the accurate passing of Pell, Townsend, and Rumsey.

The summary: FIRST TEAM.  SECOND TEAM. Pell, l.e.  r.e., Chapin, Lanigan, Wagstaff Townsend, l.c.  r.c., Paine Rumsey, r.c.  l.c., Butt Fraser-Campbell, Edgell, r.e.  l.e., Goodridge Briggs, c.p.  c.p., Nichols, Gardner Willetts, p.  p., W. M. Washburn Carpenter, g.  g., F. A. B. Washburn

Score--First Team, 12; Second Team, 0. Goals--Townsend 4, Fraser-Campbell, 3, Rumsey 3, Pell 2. Referee and Timekeeper--Coach Donovan. Time--25 and 15-minute halves.

Scrub Hockey This Afternoon.

Two games of the scrub hockey series will be played in the Stadium this afternoon at 4 o'clock. Holworthy will play Thayer, and two teams from the Law School, called the Hottentots and the Shootemups will play. Any members of the University may form a team and enter the series, but no member of the University or second team and only three members of class teams may play on any scrub team. The management will give cups to the team winning the series.

Freshmen Won from Arlington.

The Freshman hockey team defeated Arlington High School in the Stadium yesterday afternoon by a score of 5 to 0. The playing of the Freshmen was somewhat listless, and on the whole the game was uninteresting. Frequently the Arlington forwards would carry the puck near to the 1910 goal, but they lacked team play and their shooting was weak. In the first half the Freshmen were easily superior, scoring four well-earned goals. The play became more even during the second half and a long series of rushes up and down the rink consumed most of the period.

The summary:

1910.  ARLINGTON.Hicks, l.e.  r.e., TaylorMorgan, l.c.  r.c., CliffordDole, r.c.  l.c., SloanLanigan, Chapin, r.e.  l.e., BrookGardner, c.p.  c.p., GrayParker, Earle, p.  p., BullardCarpenter, g.  g., Dunba
