PRACTICE GAME YESTERDAY

Between Two Picked Teams from Baseball Squad.--Team A, 14; Team B, 7.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The University baseball squad had its first practice game of the season yesterday afternoon on the Freshman diamond. Two teams were formed, but substitutes were used in both batteries and in nearly every position on team B. A full nine-inning game was played. Team A, on which were six of last year's University team, defeated team B, by the score of 14 to 7.

The pitchers were frequently changed, seven being used in all. They, very naturally, showed lack of control, but only six bases on balls were allowed.

The batting was on the whole very promising, although the pitchers have had scarcely ten days' practice with curves. Pounds had the best record, with two two-base hits and one three-bagger out of a total of five times at bat. Briggs, Simons and Currier each had two hits to their credit.

The fielding was for the most part very crude. The outfielders used poor judgment in catching flies and the infielders handled the ball very clumsily. The poor throwing was in part due to the change from the shorter distances of the Cage.

The batting orders: TEAM A.  TEAM B. Leonard, 3b.,  2b., Kemble Briggs, 1b.  3b., Pritchett, Garceau McCall, 2b.  1b., Waters, Harding Dexter, l.f.  s.s., Harvey Simons, s.s.  l.f., Ware Pounds, r.f.  r.f., Grant, Smith Dana, c.f.  c.f., Paine, Frye Currier, Carlisle, c.  c., Howe, Kelly Beebe, Davis, Bush, p.  p., Boyer, Greene, Slater, Hartford

Practice today will be at 2.30 o'clock, but in case of rain a notice will be posted in Leavitt & Peirce's window.
