CREW RACE IN BASIN AT 3.45

Over Three-and-one-half-mile Course.--Review of Past Month's Work.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The fall rowing of the University crew squad will end today with a race between the three crews over the three-and-one-half-mile course. The race will start at 3.45 o'clock opposite the Weld boathouse and finish in the basin opposite the Union boathouse. The third crew will start first, ten seconds ahead of the second crew, which will in turn start ten seconds ahead of the first. It was hoped that the race could be over the four-mile course, but owing to the fact that there have been less than the usual number of long practice rows it was deemed advisable to substitute the three-and-one-half-mile course.

The crews will be made up as follows:

University crew--Stroke, Sargent; 7, Waid; 6, R. Cutler; 5, Severance; 4, Bacon; 3, Faulkner; 2, Lunt; bow, E. Cutler; cox., Blagden.

Second crew--Stroke, Forster; 7, Hooper; 6, Eaton; 5, Withington; 4, Waite; 3, Wyman; 2, Ellis; bow, Shillito; cox., Fales.

Third crew--Stroke, S. O. Richardson; 7, M. Richardson; 6, Hanfstaengl; 5, Beane; 4, Loring; 3, Macleod; 2, Peabody; bow, Reece; cox., Everett.

General Review of Fall Rowing.

The work of the crews during the fall has been mainly directed toward the smoothing out of the boat. The blade work has shown decided improvement, and at the present time the boat runs well between the strokes. There is plenty of power behind the boat and the men have good endurance. The crews have rowed five times a week since October 3, and have been followed by Coach Wray in a single. All the members of last year's victorious eight except Captain Richardson are in the boat this year. R. Cutler, captain of last year's Freshman crew, is the new man. The order has been shifted from that of last year. Waid has been moved from 5 to 7, and Severance from 3 to 5. Faulkner took Severance's place at 3 and E. Cutler went from 2 to bow. R. Cutler took Bacon's place at 6 and the latter was moved to 4, Lunt being shifted from 4 to 2. With all the members but one of last year's eight back, the prospects are very bright for a successful season.
