REVIEW OF CREW WORK

University and freshman Crews on River Last Week--The Orders

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

For the past week a portion, at least, of the University squad has been on the river every day. The floats have not been placed yet nor have the launches appeared, but, except for the last two days, the tide has permitted an easy launching from the dock. Coaches Wray and Stevenson have supervised the rowing from their singles.

With the exception of Wednesday, when Marvin replaced Faulkner at bow, the first University crew has rowed regularly in the order given below. Individually, every member is experienced, having been in at least one race at New London; taken as a whole the men pull well together. The crew has been twice down to the basin; yesterday it continued in one long stretch past Harvard Bridge almost to Beacon street. Richardson, Severance, and Fish are occupying the same seats they filled last year. Lunt, however, has gone to four and Faulkner has been shifted from three to bow. Morgan, now at three, rowed against Yale and Cambridge in 1906, but was a substitute last year. Consequently there are only two new men in the shell at present--Sargent and Bacon; they and Morgan fill up the three positions left by R. L. Bacon, Farley, and Tappan.

Three other crews from the University squad have been on the river off and on during the week. Their order has not been in a settled condition, the men for the most part reporting at different times each day. There will be no immediate cut.

Yesterday the various eights were made up as follows. Ellis and Tilton each filled a place on two of the eights. The order of the crews as given does not necessarily signify their respective worth.

Crew A--Stroke Sargent; 7, Richardson; 6, E. Bacon; 5, Severance; 4, Lunt; 3, Morgan; 2, Fish; bow, Faulkner; cox., Blagden.

Crew B--Stroke, reece; 7, Waid; 6, Lovering; 5, Wyman; 4, Hyde; 3, Rackemann; 2, Fahnestock; bow, E. Cutler; cox., King.

Crew C--Stroke, Martin; 7, Deming; 6, Hanfstaengl; 5, Tilton; 4, Hill; 3, Ball; 2, Forster; bow, Ellis; cox., Adams.

Crew D--Stroke, J. Cutler; 7, Marvin; 6, Beaman; 5, tilton; 4, Vogel; 3, Hadden; 2, Maxwell; bow, Ellis.

On Wednesday a Freshman crew appeared on the river for the first time. Thursday three Freshman eights went out, and yesterday two. No actual gradation has been attempted yet, although many of the men have had previous experience on school crews. Those who have rowed regularly on the first crew are: Cutler, Forster, Harding, Hooper, Smith and Waite.

The orders yesterday were as follows:

Crew A--Stroke, cutler; 7, Hooper; 6, Smith; 5, Perkins; 4, Waite; 3, Whitney; 2, Forster; bow, Harding; cox., Fales.

Crew B--Stroke, Shillito; 7, Jowett; 6, Eaton; 5, Johnson; 4, Snedeker; 3, Shaw; 2, Richardson; bow, Reece; cox., Everett.
