Hard Row for University Crew

Late last Saturday morning the University crew had a hard row from the Union Boat Club to the bend below the Weld boathouse, a distance of a little over three miles. During the first mile of the course the University crew raced the second crew and was only able to win by half a length, the work of both crews being very ragged. At the finish of the first mile the Freshman crew took up the race and rowed to the bathing beach. Before reaching the Cottage Farm Bridge the University crew had a slight lead. Here the Freshmen lost a length through having the outside course, but this loss was almost made up by a spurt before reaching the bathing beach. The Freshmen showed the best from they have so far this season, and finished only half a length behind. The University crew covered the rest of the course alone.

The work of the University crew was a distinct disappointment, the rowing being listless throughout. Although rough water accounted for some of the ragged blade work, the men made the work worse by tearing at the water are the catch.
