Holworthy Portraits in Fogg Museum

The University has received as a gift from Mr. J. Pierpont Morgan, Jr., '89 and Mr. Edward F. Whitney '71, portraits of Sir Matthew and Lady Holworthy, painted by Sir Peter Lely.

Sir Matthew Holworthy was an English merchant, who died in 1678, leaving to Harvard College the sum of 1000 pounds, the largest individual gift made to the College in the 17th century. It was in his honor that Holworthy Hall was given its name.
