The University tennis team was defeated by the Yale team, 4 matches to 5, at New Haven on Saturday morning. The University team started in well by winning four out of the six matches in singles, but then lost all three of the doubles matches. Practically all the matches were very closely contested, most of them going to three sets. The deciding match of the meet between Whitney and Cutting of Harvard and the Gates brothers of Yale proved to be most exciting and brought out the best tennis of the day. The University men played more brilliantly, but lacked the team-work and steadiness of the Yale pair.
