The University tennis team secured a victory in the first match of its intercollegiate schedule by defeating Amherst 4 to 2 last Saturday afternoon. The University team won three singles matches and one in doubles.

The summary:

Singles.--E. H. Whitney '14 defeated Cady, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4; E. H. Woods '14 defeated Shumway, 6-4, 6-3; E. R. Hastings, Jr., '14, defeated McTague; Johnstone defeated W. M. Washburn '15, 7-5, 6-3.

Doubles.--E. H. Whitney '14 and W. M. Washburn '15 defeated Johnstone and Cady, 7-5, 6-1.
