For the first time of the spring season the University crews took a short spin on the river yesterday afternoon. Crew A rowed as formerly, but there were minor shifts in crews B and C.
A boat was carried from the Newell Club House to the lower side of the bridge, where an improvised float allowed the men to get on board. In the open water between the Stadium and the Cottage Farm Bridge, crew A made three trips back and forth. There was no attempt to raise the stroke, and the work of the oarsmen was satisfactory for so early in the season. Crews B and C made two trips between the bridges, and the other crews rowed in the tank under the direction of Coach Brown.
The crews rowed as follows:
Crew A.--Stroke, Chanler; 7, Schall; 6, H. S. Middendorf; 5, J. W. Middendorf; 4, Harwood; 3, Reynolds; 2, Gardiner; bow, Murray; cox., Gallaher.
Crew B--Stroke, Chichester; 7, Soucy; 6, Parson; 5, L. Curtis; 4, Morgan; 3, Lyman; 2, Talcott; bow, Herrick; cox., Kreger.
Crew C--Stroke, Pirnie; 7, Wilkinson; 6, E. Reynolds; 5, Saltonstall; 4, Kingsbury; 3, Carver; 2, Busk; bow, Storrow; cox., Sargent.
Outdoor practice will be continued every afternoon henceforth, if the weather permits.
