The collection taken up between the halves of the football game last Saturday amounted to $11,432.39 which far exceeds any previous sum collected at a like time and for such a purpose. Last year at the Harvard-Yale game when the enormous capacity of the Bowl made possible an attendance of over 70,000 people, the amount of the contribution was $7463.91, while at the Harvard-Princeton game, last season's big Stadium event, the sum was less than $4,000. A week ago at New Haven between the halves of the Yale-Princeton game about $5,276.80 was given. In the collection Saturday there was $100 in $20 bills, $300 in $10 bills; $1,225 in $5 bills; $754 in $2; $4,333 in $1 bills. Gold to the amount of $52.50; $8 in silver dollars; $1,482.50 in 50-cent pieces; $2,338.75 in 25-cent pieces; $532.10 in 10-cent pieces; $252 in 5-cent pieces; $29.65 in 1-cent pieces $14 was contributed in checks, while in Canadian money $10.39 and $.40 in French coinage was given. Mutilated silver to the amount of 10 cents was recorded. The largest single contribution was $40--two $20 bills rolled tightly together.
The Committee has not decided definitely how the money will be distributed but the general head of "For the War Sufferers in Europe" will be respected. Two contributions were marked for special purposes and in these cases the wishes of the donors will of course be respected.
