Library Received Valued Notes on Naval History

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The College Library has received from Dr. Gardner Weld Allen '77 a collection of books relating to the Naval history of the United States. This collection, which consists of about 1700 volumes and pamphlets, was formed by Dr. Allen for his own use in writing his books on the early American Navy, "Our Naval War with France," and "Our Navy and the Barbary Corsairs." While the collection is thus naturally strongest on naval affairs up to the war of 1812, it also has considerable later material. Perhaps the most interesting feature of it is the series of over 800 articles taken from various periodicals relating to the Navy, and separately bound. The collection forms a valuable addition to the Library's resources on this subject.
