CROSS-COUNTRY WORK STARTED

Large and Promising Squad Has Had Daily Practice Since Monday.

With a squad of nearly twenty men out since last Monday, the outlook for the cross-country team this fall is very bright. Of the University runners who competed in meets last year Captain R. T. Twitchell '16, K. E. Fuller '16, W. Edgar '16 A. R. Bancroft '17 and H. R. Bechtel '17 are out this week in the daily practices, which have usually consisted of a two or three mile walk every morning and about a two-mile run outside around the Stadium in the afternoon. This early season work is in charge of Coaches Shrubb and Donavan.

There is a nucleus of good runnres this fall upon which to build B. T. Twitchell '16 and K. E. Fuller '16 can in the Yale and Intercollegiate races last year, the latter also at Cornell, W. Edgar '16 and A. R. Bancroft '17 were also Harvard representatives in the Cornell race, and Bancroft ran a good race at New Haven. The other Senior who has been out since Monday is G. H. Hughes '16.

There is much promising material among the 1917 men. Besides Bancroft and Bechtel, there are R. D. Campbell '17, who reported yesterday, R. S. Cook '17, and G. Hughes '17. 1918 has sent up four good men from the Freshman team last year. They are L. K. Moorehead, J. Coggeshall, R. F. Boyce, and W. F. King. C. Reynolds '18 reported yesterday and L. V. Alexis '18 has been out for practice regularly. And from 1919 there is W. D. Hutchinson, the interscholastic miler, who gives much promise as a cross-country runner. C. Southworth '15 and B. V. Zamore '15, members of the team last year, are out running with the squad.

The first call for candidates will be made Monday, and a cross-country meeting will be held in conjunction with the usual track meeting next week, the day to be announced later. All men who intend to come out for the cross-country team are urged to report Monday. No previous training is necessary.
