About 60 promising candidates from the Freshman class reported for fall rowing yesterday at the Newell boathouse, but a good many more men are wanted, especially from Standish.
The candidates were grouped according to dormitories, as it is intended to have dormitory work for about two weeks, before the regular Freshman crews are chosen. This rowing will lead up to a final race for the Slocum Trophy and individual cups and medals, which are given each year to the members of winning dormitory crews.
Coaches Herrick and Haines were on hand. Head Coach Herrick gave all the candidates individual coaching on some specially arranged machines, while Coach Haines, assisted by J. Talcott, Jr., '16 and C. C. Lund '16, of the Henley crew, undertook to give the men a rudimentary knowledge of what is wanted.
