SHUT OUT HARVARD CLUB IN LIVELY SCRIMMAGE

The University hockey team, scrimmaging for over three-quarters of an hour at the Arena yesterday afternoon, blanked the Harvard Club seven and succeeded in scoring four goals.

It was a two-hour practice, and the first part of the period was given over to the usual drill in passing and shooting, with the emphasis especially on playing out formations. Coach Winsor sent the forward lines down against the backs, keeping them after the puck each time until they had scored or until the defence men had knocked the disc out of the danger zone. The playing at this stage of the practice was rather listless, but the team showed plenty of aggressiveness when it lined up against the Harvard Club.

Baker scored the first goal, playing the puck cleverly through the defence and snapping it past Chadwick into the net. Both teams played at a pretty fast pace, and a number of chances to score were lost by close margins. Percy scored the second goal from a mix-up near the cage. Saltonstall got away once and broke through the defence, but Wylde came out and stopped him. After the regulars had worked for about fifteen minutes, Coach Winsor sent in the second, string line, and they scored two more goals. Phillips started several good rushes, but on one of them Clark took the puck away, carried it up the rink and passed to Baldwin, who lifted it into the cage. Bliss scored the last goal from a scrimmage near the cage, following the rebound when Chadwick blocked Lombard's shot.

The Harvard Club seven was utterly lacking in team-work, while the University players negotiated several good passes. Baldwin played well, although his tendency yesterday was to keep the puck to himself too much. He also has a habit of using only one hand on his stick a great deal of the time, which handicaps his handling of the puck. Baker, in Curtis's place at left centre, also played a good game. Murray Taylor '18, who played on the Freshman team last year, but has not been able to come out for the squad this year until recently, has the makings of an aggressive forward. Abbott played well at goal again yesterday, and was instrumental in blanking the Harvard Club. Captain Morgan was on the ice yesterday, but not in hockey clothes. The next game is scheduled for Friday evening, when the University will meet the strong Dartmouth team. The Green won last year, 4 to 2, and three of the veterans are back this year, besides Geran, a new man, who has played brilliantly at rover.
