The first trials for the University debating team, which will meet Yale and Princeton in the Intercollegiate Triangular Debate, will be held in Harvard 5 and 6 tonight at 7.30 o'clock. The trials will be open to all members of the three upper classes. All those who have had any experience in debating are urged to come out. The candidates must be prepared to speak for five minutes on either side of the question: "Resolved, That the United States should adopt a system of compulsory military service modelled after that of Switzerland." The second trials will be held on Wednesday. The final trials will come on Saturday, February 26.
The T. Jefferson Coolidge prize of $100 and a medal is awarded for the best speech in the system of debates, of which tonight's trials are a part.
Candidates for the position of manager will report at Harvard 6 tonight at 7 o'clock, when the work of the competition will be outlined. No previous experience is necessary.
