The Hon. Bertrand Russell, who was to have lectured at the University during the second half year, has been refused by his government permission to come to this country, so that he will be unable to fulfill his engagement here until the war is over.
Mr. Russell, who lectured here in 1914, was dismissed from Cambridge University and fined by the British government because of his attitude against conscription and his defense of the conscientious objectors, who refused to take part in the war.
