POSITIONS OPEN ON CRIMSON

SPRING COMPETITIONS FOR PLACES ON BOARD WILL COMMENCE FEBRUARY 14.

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The spring competitions for the CRIMSON board will commence on Wednesday, February 14, the week after mid-years. This will be the last opportunity for members of the Class of 1918 to try for the board, and the first opportunity for 1920. There will be five distinct competitions for the news and business staffs from the Sophomore and Freshman classes and for the editorial board from the Junior Class. This will also be the final news competition for 1919.

One or two positions on the editorial staff are still open and will be filled by the candidates who write most clearly. All Juniors are eligible to compete for these positions.

The work of the news competition will consist in obtaining all the important news of the University and preparing it for publication. The work affords the candidates an excellent opportunity for becoming familiar with the men prominent in all branches of University activities. It also gives a good training for a business or journalistic career.

Business Candidates Should Report.

A competition for Freshmen will be held next spring for the first time in two years. There are three positions open to the Class of 1920, of which two will be filled this year. The regular Sophomore business competition will also be held, but the full details in regard to it will be announced later. The character of the work in these two competitions will be mainly in obtaining advertisements with a small amount of clerical work but no bookkeeping as previously announced. No business experience is required.

This work gives a business experience and brings the candidates in direct contact with the large firms and advertising agencies in Boston, New York and other cities. Those who are taken on the board may compete for the position of business manager during their Junior year.

Any men contemplating coming out for the business competition should get in touch with the business manager as soon as possible before it begins. He may be found in his office in the CRIMSON Building daily between the hours of 8.30 and 9 o'clock in the morning
