COMPETITIONS TO BEGIN

WILL OPEN FEB. 14

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The spring competitions for the news, editorial and business staffs of the CRIMSON will commence on Wednesday, February 14. At that time all members of the Classes of 1919 and 1920 wishing to compete for positions as news editors, and Juniors who wish to enter the editorial competition, will report at the CRIMSON Building, 14 Plympton street, at 7 o'clock. This will be the first competition open to the Freshman Class and the last news competition open to 1919, as well as the last competition in any department open to the Junior Class.

The chief work of the news competition will consist in gathering news of interest to the University and preparing it for publication. In addition it affords candidates an excellent opportunity for becoming acquainted with those who are at the head of the University's undergraduate and Faculty organizations.

One or two positions are still open on the editorial staff. Ability to write clearly and forcefully will be the basis of choice. All members of the Class of 1918 are eligible to compete.

Business Competition Open to 1920.

For the first time in two years a competition for Freshmen will be held for positions on the business staff in addition to the regular Sophomore business competition. Two positions in this department are open to the Class of 1920 this year. The work will consist mainly in soliciting advertisements, together with a small amount of clerical work, but no bookkeeping as previously announced. Those who are successful in these competitions may compete for the position of business manager during their Junior year. The competitions will last the same length of time as those for news and editorial candidates. Former business experience is not considered a necessity.

It will be of great advantage to any men contemplating entering the business competition to get in touch with the business manager as soon as possible. He may be consulted in the CRIMSON Building any morning between the hours of 8.30 and 9 o'clock.
