ENGINEER WORK STARTED

SUPPLY COURSE JUNE:4

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The active engineering work of the University R. O. T. C. was begun yesterday, when Companies C and D, under the leadership of the French officers, spent the day near Fresh Pond, engaged in the outlining and construction of trenches. The Frenchmen have laid out a system of defences which include first and second line trenches, communication trenches and boyeaux, with bombproofs and dug-outs at intervals along the line. The plans also include machine gun positions and bombing posts. Two companies each day will devote their entire time to the study of these positions and the construction of a portion of the trenches, under the guidance and constant instruction of the officers.

According to the plan which the other companies of the regiment will follow, Companies C and D marched out to Fresh Pond this morning after the 8 o'clock section meetings, and remained there until evening, having lunch in the field. One more field kitchen has already been secured for the use of the Corps, although it will probably not be needed until the hike. It is at present stationed on Soldiers Field.

Course for Supply Officers.

A course of instruction for prospective supply officers, which provides for intensive work from June 4 to 23, inclusive, has been announced by the Graduate School of Business Administration. Owing to its official connection with the Reserve Officers' Training Corps the course will be open only to members of that organization.

Captain Cordier will detail for this special training only such men as are recommended by the Business School on account of their special qualifications. The instruction will be given by professors in the Business School, assisted by Sergeant Harvey, of the Quartermaster Corps, who has been detailed from Washington for this purpose. Captain Bowen has supervision of this work.
