CLASS A OF O. T. C. TO REPORT AT CAMP GRANT

CORPS TO HAVE ARTILLERY

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

The above communication was received by Major Flynn late yesterday afternoon, ordering all men of the University quota under Class A to report at Camp Grant, Rockford, Ill., for training in the Fourth Series of Officers' Training Camps. The men, by order of Adjutant General McCain, are to report to the camp commandant for duty on May 15.

This notice came unexpectedly to the Military Office and to the men selected to attend the O. T. C., as it had been commonly thought that the entire University quota would be sent to Camp Devens, at Ayer. The removal of the men to the middle-western cantonment has been ordered, however, without any explanation from the War Department.

Only those men will go to Camp Grant who have enrolled in Class A of those attending O. T. C.'s. The cantonments to which the candidates in Classes B and C will be sent have not yet been announced.

The announcement of the names of those selected to go to Devens for two weeks' training in bayonet and grenade work will be made within the next few days, as soon as the Tactical Staff passes upon the names of those who have volunteered. At the same time notice will probably be given by Major Flynn as to how long a vacation, if any, will be granted those men who take intensive training prior to the June Camp.

Artillery Training in Fall.

Training in elementary artillery will be given in the R. O. T. C. next fall. Equipment that has not passed the Government tests but is suitable for instruction purposes will be provided from the Watertown Arsenal. Washington, D. C.,   May 8, 1918.

Professor of Military Science and Tactics, Harvard University:

Send all Class A men, graduates of Reserve Officers' Training Corps, selected to attend training school, to report to the commanding officer of the Officers' Training School Camp at Camp Grant, Illinois, on May 15.   McCAIN.
