$10,000 Gift to University

The receipt of a gift of $10,000 from the estate of Samuel Abbott Green has been announced by the treasurer of the University. This sum is to be used for two scholarships of $5000 each, the income of which is to be applied for the benefit of "students of the College who prepared at Lawrence Academy, Groton.

The donor of these scholarships, Samuel Abbott Green, graduated from the here in 1854. He served with distinction a surgeon in the Civil War, and was for a time mayor of Boston.

The bequest itself is left in memory of his father, Joshua Green, also a graduate of the University in the Class of 1818.
