With today's practice the second team brings to a close a strenuous but successful season, during which all of the three games played were won and a total of 52 points amassed, as compared with their opponents' 20. Captained by T. C. Wales '21 until he was promoted to the University squad, and coached by James L. Knox '98 they have had altogether an enviable season.

As in years past, the second team has devoted most of its time and energy to the scrimmages against the first eleven, and every week the men have learned a new series of plays and signals to prepare the University team for the attacks of its opponents. For this purpose the seconds have mastered a total of more than 80 different plays and formations.

The first game of the season was played against the Abington Athletic Association team, which put up a stiff fight, despite the 21-0 score. Captain Wales, G. S. Morse '22; E. H. Stillman '21, and R. P. Parker '22 all showed in this game their ability at line-plunging and kicking, but the long gains made by Brett, the Abington halfback, kept it from being too one-sided.

On October 17 the seconds won from the Brown scrubs by the narrow margin of 14-13 on Brown's failure to kick the goal from its last touchdown. The University seconds made their first score when B. Lockwood '21 recovered a blocked kick and broke away for a touchdown. After a series of line rushes Wales again carried the ball across in the second quarter. Wales also kicked both the goals, while Morse and Parker again did excellent work in the running and kicking. Oden's 78-yard run for a Brown touchdown was the individual feature of the game.

Despite the loss of several men through injuries, the second team won its final game the following week from the U. S. Submarine Base of New London by a score of 17 to 7. L. Crosscup Occ., D. Angier '22, and B. Hunneman '22 were the individual stars in this game.
