McLEOD CHOSEN LEADER OF '19 BASEBALL TEAM

PREPARED AT MALDEN HIGH

NO WRITER ATTRIBUTED

At a meeting of the University baseball squad held in the Trophy Room of the Union yesterday noon, Willard Wise McLeod '19, of Malden, was elected captain of the team for the coming season. Only members of the Junior and Senior classes who are on this year's squad or who won their "H" in baseball last year were present at the meeting.

McLeod prepared for College at Malden High School, where he played second base on the nine for three years. In the spring of 1916; he held the same position on the University Freshman team.

Is an Experienced Player.

The next year McLeod took part in the usual baseball practice in the fall, but was unable to play in games during the spring because the team was disbanded upon the declaration of war before the spring recess. An informal nine was organized in the fall of 1917 which played regular games with the Radio School. McLeod was catcher and acting captain of this team. He left College early in April to enlist in the aero service and so was unable to take part in any of the games last spring. He had considerable experience as a shortstop on army teams at Rantoul, III.

As a second baseman, McLeod is a reliable fielder, a consistent batter, and a fast man on the bases. His extensive experience will be of great value on a team which is for the most part made up of new men.

Weather Necessitated Cage Practice.

The University and Freshman baseball squads have been forced to practice in the Cage for the past three days because of the blizzard. With only a week before the opening game with Bowdoin College, Coach Duffy is very anxious to resume out-door work, and will continue the practice games between teams A and B as soon as weather permits. There will probably be a work-out on Saturday afternoon this week
