Although University entries in the Relay Carnival to be held in Philadelphia on April 25 and 26 will not be announced until April 12, certain men appear to be certain of entrance. G. C. Krongness, Jr.'21, captain of last year's Freshman team, is the best all round candidate and is likely to be entered in the Pentathalon. Besides doing exceptionally good work in the high jump, he is a good performer in the high and low hurdles, short-put and broad jump. In the Andover meet last year he was first in the high and low hurdles and shot put, tied for the lead in the high jump and placed second in the broad jump. H. C. Flower '19 is an excellent performer in the sprints. In the distance events D. F. O'Connell '20 and D. J. Duggan '20 are doing good work. The return of B.Lewls'20 should strengthen this department greatly. He was captain of his Freshman cross-country team and, for a time, University captain last year.
Coach Donovan has announced that probably not more that six men beside those entered in the relays will be entered in the Penn Carnival. At present, the University is entered in both the four-mile and two-mile relays, and either one or both may be run.
Only twenty-five Freshmen are reporting and at least twenty-five or thirty more men are needed. The squad is especially deficient in pole-vaulters, weight-men, and hurdlers.
